I believe that music is an incredibly important part of life. For me, music is such a big part of me that I want to teach, play, and listen to music for the rest of my life. Something that I love about music is how many different genres and styles there are. I obviously can’t name every single genre of music, but my favorites include all kinds of rock, metal, funk, jazz, old-school rap, and pop music.
In my classroom, I will teach so that my students have a greater understanding and passion for music. I want all of my students to be eager to come to my class every day to play music. Hopefully, I can even inspire some of them to pursue music even further, just like all of my music teachers inspired me. I wouldn’t be where I am today and I wouldn’t want to do what I want to do if it weren’t for my incredible music teachers that I had growing up, from elementary school to high school. Over that time, I have had five different band/orchestra conductors and teachers, and each one of them has inspired me in different ways, whether it be in attitude, teaching style, or even the way they conduct. I want to be a band director because I want to be just like them and continue the cycle.
I will teach everyone who wants to join my class, no matter who they are, or what their experience level is. Everyone deserves the chance to play music because it is the most amazing thing in the world. I will give every student the attention that they need and every student will get 100% effort from me.
I want to be a band director, so I will mostly be helping students learn how to master their instruments and I will help them become the best musicians that they can be, no matter their skill level. I will try my best to select repertoire pieces that appeal to them so they are even more inspired to play the music.
I want to make sure that every student feels welcomed and unintimidated in my classroom. Although I could seem intimidating to a student who doesn't personally know me (particularly because of my size), I am a super friendly person and I think that once people get to know me, they can feel comfortable around me and see me as an easy to talk to person. I want my class to feel like a place where students aren’t afraid to ask questions or mess up. I want to let all of my students have fun and enjoy their time in my class. I plan on doing this by just being myself. I will always be joking around, never taking it too seriously. I feel like if I take myself too seriously, my class will lose the fun and the energy that I want to bring to the students.
